After a time of recovering from an AWESOME & very BUSY POH this year, I figure I would go ahead and give everyone a Deliveryman's report:
It was already dusk when everyone rustled in and our of the warehouse, signing up for upcoming RPG gamers, with Carmen Bellaire's Minaitures of Heroes Unlimited vs a clan of apemen being first on the list. Everyone came in with excitement and anticipation. More Writers & Artists rolled in and the Warehouse began to fill with discussions, new media and RPG kinsmenship (if that's a word). Kevin gave inspirational panel discussions on the future of Palladiumbooks, about some of it's upcoming products & new releases and where PB would like to venture as far as new mediums (New Titles, Video Games, Comics, Miniatures, etc.). Some inciteful info!
Games were being run everywhere at the POH, but I didn't hear of ANY Splicers campaigns, sigh...
The artwork of Lemuria & Northern Gun was reviewed & very well accepted. Northern Gun artwork allotted me to showcase what style of art/pencils I plan to utilize for the more technical illustrations of Splicers machines. Lemuria reflected some interest and light onto Splicers as some wondered were the Lemurian Bio-Armors and Splicers Host Armors part of the same gaming options. This opended the door for me to introduce newcomers to Splicers. Some thought I was describing some upcoming movie that they couldn't wait to see and were so excited about the concept and story of the RPG. I personally feel Splicers is the most slept on RPG setting perhaps in gaming history.
I enjoyed this POH more than the previous for some reason. Working with the other Artists this years was a wonderful experience and I learned alot from everyone and actually collaborated in commissions with numerous Artists. From Mike Mumah, Amy Ashbaugh to the Manning brothers (Brian & Allen), and I even got some GOOD advise from Nick Bradshaw. Most of my collab work was with the Mannings though. These guys are like machines on an assembly line and they crank art out, good and fast! Some of what I learned was that:
A) I draw too big on BIG paper, thus it may throw off composition(s) & it takes longer to complete.
B) I was undercutting myself far too much by the pricing I have been charging and that I have to charge more adequate pricing.
C) That I can go back to drawing on smaller paper and deliver the same quality.
D) Need to committ to drawing on bristle board.
As the days went by, I was glad to be introduced to faces behind the names. Kevarin came a long way and was able to peruse through the heavy stack of SPLICERS concept art & completed artwork for the upcoming Splicers sourcebooks and also came to pick up some of his previously ordered commissions, some still WIP. His commissions were all upgraded to Illustrations (instead of sketches) that I confident everyone will enjoy when they are all completed & he is ready to reveal them.
I also enjoyed several conversations with Galactus Kid (between his running campaigns) regarding his upcoming Rifter's articles and the direction WE are seeking to go with upcoming Splicers info in regards to Packmasters, TJs, and a few other secret goodies. So excited that our info lined up and that it really enhances the O.C.C.s and the setting. He has some awesome ideas. He also was able to take a sneak peak at the upcoming concept artwork.
What I have learned however is that there are a lot of gamers that would love to play a Splicers campaign but have very few or limited options to do it. Either their GM doesn't run Splicers or they can't get a group together to do it or they didn't know it was that good until it is explained to them what it is really about. Hopefully, with more product for the setting coming out it will generate more awareness and interest as gamers see support for the product line, but will also attract newcomers as well.
I just hope we are doing our part to introduce others to this awesome RPG.
BTW, the fully painted cover for the upcoming Splicers sourcebook & Uneleashed Entries (all of them) were on display and everyone loved them!
I also enjoyed doing an interview with Carmen & Will and It is now uploaded so you all can meet the face behind the MAdjaguar:
